The Coleman Company, Inc., today released results from the Coleman Happy Camper Report, based on the survey, which learned that people who participate in more monthly outdoor activities or camp most often are more satisfied with their personal lives. Additionally, those Americans who engage most in outdoor and camping activities form positive associations with those activities, including a sense of peacefulness, adventure and self-reliance.

The Coleman Happy Camper Report revealed that nearly half of those who camp (42 percent) said their favorite thing about camping is gathering around the campfire with family and friends.

“In these stressful times, many people treasure the simple pleasures of outdoor lifestyles,” said Bill Phillips, Coleman Company president. “It comes as no surprise to us at Coleman that Americans who participate most in outdoor and camping activities say they are the most satisfied with their personal lives.

“For a century, we have been in the business of making innovative products that enable people to enjoy a more comfortable and convenient outdoor experience,” Phillips added. “Enjoying this country’s beautiful outdoors has become a high priority for most Americans.”
 

Wirthlin Worldwide conducted this study on behalf of The Coleman Company, Inc., which was designed to look at public perceptions of outdoor activities and camping in conjunction with respondent?s satisfaction with various factors. Coleman will conduct the outdoor survey on a regular basis.

A nationally representative sample of 1013 interviews was conducted among the general public during March 16-20, 2001. The margin of error of this sample size is +/- 3.1 percentage points and +/- 0.1 on 1-7 scales.
