While the fashion industry continues to offer gaunt models for women to emulate, statistics show that American women are anything but gaunt. According to the National Institute of Health Related Statistics, 62% of women in the U.S. wear a size 12 or larger, and one-third of U.S. women wear a size 16 or larger. And the National Panel Data Group estimates that last year, U.S. women spent $22.7 billion on plus-size clothes, up 6%-7% from the previous year.

In its spring catalog, for instance, Dodgeville, WI-based Lands' End introduced sizes 18W-26W in 45 of its most popular styles. "We had thousands of comments from people saying, 'I order for my husband and kids, but you don't fit me. I want to wear what they wear,'" says Michele Casper, spokeswoman for the $1.3 billion casual apparel cataloger.

For so long, there has been little in the way of fashion advice and education for full-figured women. Additionally, fun, sexy, trends were not made for women of size, relegating us to clothing that was much frumpier than fashionable. This book is great for fashion advice for bigger women. It's hard to find style information for my size (22W)and Ms. Moultry's book gave me ideas for dressing using clothes that are already in my own closet. I particularly love the chapter about ideas for women with a sort of apple shape, since this is what my body looks like. Would recommend to any woman over size 12, looking for fashion advice.
