Common Uses of Meridia
Meridia helps the seriously overweight shed pounds and keep them off. It

Meridia is available in 5, 10 and 15 mg capsules. The minimum effective
dose is 10 mg. Physicians may increase the dose to 15 mg in patients who
do not respond to 10 mg, provided there are no adverse side effects.
Meridia is indicated for weight loss in patients with a body mass index
(BMI) of 30 or more, 27 or more if comorbidities exist, like type-2
diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or a family history of
these conditions.
Meridia - Appetite Suppressant
Meridia works by suppressing the appetite in a person through preventing
the degradation of norepinephrine and serotonin, two brain chemicals.
This is very similar to what the drug Prozac and other anti-depressants
do. These brain chemicals are believed to be responsible for the sense
of being satisfied with how much one has eaten.
Still, Meridia, like its predecessors, is intended for obesity, not
simple weight loss. For most women, this means being at least 30 pounds
overweight. Women with other risk factors such as high blood pressure or
diabetes can take Meridia if they are a bit less obese. This is because
extra weight causes more health problems for those with high blood
pressure or diabetes.
