 Each year, California hosts various events throughout
the state, ranging from wakeboarding Pro Tour stops, boat shows, the
Malibu Open, West Side Spring Ride to the X Games, but Boardstock is the
one event that seems to cause the most buzz and controversy. Since
Boardstock's inception at Lake Shasta, the event organizers have had to
deal with endless issues required to keep it an ongoing annual event. Over
the years, there have been location and venue changes, rowdy crowds,
increasing admission and parking prices and declining numbers of
professional riders making appearances. Regardless of these factors,
Boardstock continues to be a huge event that numerous wakeboarding
fanatics always take the time to check out.
Wake surfing is using a surfboard or similar board to surf
the waves behind a boat. A balasted wakeboat works best. Boat speed is
slow and ranges from 9-14 mph. The rider uses a tow rope to pull
themselves out of the water. Once the rider has their balance they release
the rope and surf the waves (wake).
A short board make specifically for wakeskating works best but a
traditional surf board may be used as well.
