Extreme Sports - Wind Surfing
In 2005, the famous World’s Police and Fire Games were held in Quebec
City, Canada. Over 10 000 athletes from around the globe came to
participate to the 62 sports on the program. For ten days, 4000
voluntaries gave there best to make everyone experienced something
unforgettable!
It was a big surprise for many people that windsurfing was one of the
sport chosen for the 2005 Quebec City games. The windsurfing races were
held from June 27th until June 30th at La Baie de Beauport, the main
windsurfing event site located just a few minutes off Quebec City’s center
on the St-Lawrence River. In order to base the event on a unique concept,
organizers decided to run figure eight slaloms and long distances races.
Groups of five windsurfers proceeded by elimination to determine the
winners. Moreover, all competitors raced with a Starboard Go board and a
6.7 Severne Sails Power Drive. This one design competition aimed at giving
the same chance to everyone.
All men races were dominated by fireman Manuel Bardo Martin from Spain who
won both Long Distance and Slalom Figure Eight races. In the women
category, the top of the podium was shared by Sandra Dion, a police
officer from Canada who won the Long Distance race, and by Geneviève
Villemure, another police officer from Canada who won the Slalom Figure
Eight race.
